We often become paralyzed with large time-consuming tasks that threaten to take over parts of our lives. There is no secret formula when it comes to tackling these large “to-do” items, you simply just need to do them. When a large project or task comes to my concierge desk, I break it down into smaller tasks that are more manageable and execute them one-by-one.

While I sit in my climate controlled office in Sarasota, Florida I drift off into my screen-saver and think back to my summers guiding in anglers in Alaska. One of many survival stories come to mind when I think about taking on large tasks that seem impossible to finish. While setting up a spike-camp 12 miles back into remote bush country I got caught in a white out on my way back to camp and could not see where I was . With daylight quickly fading, I knew that I had to continue to take small steps in the right direction so we did not have to sleep in cold bear country.
Instead of focusing on getting back to camp, I did exactly what I do for large tasks that come through my concierge desk…break down the goal of getting back to camp into smaller tasks that are within reach and even easy to accomplish. From one land mark to another I kept my wits about me, and even enjoyed my adventure along the way.
